The new year beckoned, and so did the rest of Italy. We arose and departed our apartment in La Spezia and made our way to Porto Venere to catch the sunrise. Though we didn't really get to see the rising sun (due to geographical reasons), we had the pleasant opportunity of seeing the effects of a soft dawn on this beautiful coastal town. We made our way up the steps towards the gothic black and white Church of Saint Peter and looked out to the Ligurian sea.
Would have loved more time to appreciate the beauty of Porto Venere, and watch the changing of the scenes and tides through the day, but we had to make it to Florence by the afternoon, so we bade the town goodbye just as the sun began to bring a brightened iridescent colour to the houses.
Pisa
En route to Florence, we just had to stop by to see the leaning tower. What surprised me was how white the tower was, it shone with great brilliance and purity.
